Military & Law Enforcement Therapy in Las Vegas, NV

Support for the person serving and the partner beside them.

Whether you're currently serving, have left the profession, or share life with someone who does, the demands of military service and law enforcement can affect stress, relationships, identity, and life at home. You deserve space to talk about your experience as a person, not just a job title.

What I Believe

Being dependable for everyone else does not mean you have to carry everything alone.

You don't have to be in crisis to make room for your own well-being, your relationships, or the transition into a new chapter.

What Brings People to Therapy

Support for the demands that follow you home.

You may be carrying the demands of the job, shift work, or unpredictable schedules, or supporting someone who does, while noticing stress, disconnection, or old coping habits affecting life at home.

Stress that stays on after the shift

It can be hard to feel off duty, settle your mind, or relax around the people you care about when you've spent the day needing to stay alert, covering a shift, or adjusting to a schedule that keeps changing.

Relationship and family strain

Unpredictable schedules, exhaustion, emotional distance, and difficulty talking openly can affect the person serving and their spouse or partner, sometimes in different ways.

Identity and retirement transitions

Leaving a role that provided structure, purpose, and community can raise questions about what matters now and who you are outside that role.

Anxiety, irritability, and emotional fatigue

You might feel tense, numb, reactive, frustrated, or disconnected, or notice that strategies that once helped you get through the day are no longer serving you.

For Spouses & Partners

Your needs matter, too.

When you're the spouse or partner of a service member, veteran, first responder, or shift worker, you may be adjusting to unpredictable schedules, separations, reintegration, retirement, or the emotional impact of demanding work. You deserve space to talk about how those experiences affect you, your identity, and your relationship, even when your partner isn't attending therapy.

Support in Your Own Right

Individual therapy can help you explore loneliness, resentment, communication, boundaries, uncertainty, and your own needs. Couples therapy is also available when you both want support together.

Support for Service Members, Shift Workers & Partners

Your story matters more than your job title.

These experiences affect the people who serve, work demanding shifts, and the partners who share life with them. Our work begins with what is true for you, without assumptions about what you should be feeling.

Military & Veterans

When service shapes life at home.

Active-duty service members and veterans may be navigating deployment-related separation, reintegration, retirement, a new civilian role, or changes in connection and identity. Sometimes the concern isn't service itself but how hard it feels to shift out of constant responsibility.

  • Adjustment to role changes and transitions
  • Stress, anxiety, and expectations of yourself
  • Communication and connection with a partner
  • Rebuilding purpose outside a familiar role

First Responders & Shift Workers

When the shift ends but the stress stays.

Officers, retired officers, and other first responders may carry the demands of the job into daily life. You may find it difficult to unwind, talk about what's happening, or feel fully present at home. Retirement and career transitions can bring a different kind of uncertainty.

  • Chronic stress and emotional fatigue
  • Feeling on guard, detached, or easily frustrated
  • Marriage, partnership, and family strain
  • Identity changes during or after retirement

My Perspective and Approach

A place to show up without having to explain away your experience.

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I work with adult individuals and couples. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and a trauma-informed approach to explore stress, patterns, relationships, and choices without expecting you to talk about anything before you're ready.

As the spouse of an Air Force veteran / retired law enforcement officer, I also bring a personal understanding of the partner perspective. I know that the demands of service can affect the person doing the work and the person beside them. Every individual, couple, and family is different, and your experience will guide our work.

Therapy may focus on transitioning from work to home, patterns beneath conflict, reconnecting as a couple, the emotional load carried by a spouse or partner, boundaries, or building a meaningful life beyond the demands of the role.

Questions about privacy are welcome. I can explain therapy confidentiality and its legal and ethical limits. If you have questions about employment, fitness-for-duty, or clearance requirements, those are separate processes that deserve guidance from the appropriate professionals.

Questions You May Have

Frequently asked questions

A few things to know before scheduling.

Do I need to have PTSD to seek therapy?

No. You may be dealing with stress, relationship strain, anxiety, anger, burnout, identity changes, or the adjustment to retirement or civilian life. Therapy can be useful whether or not you identify with a particular diagnosis.

Can I come to therapy as a military or law enforcement spouse or partner?

Yes. You can attend individual therapy even if your spouse or partner does not participate. Partners may want support with stress, uncertainty, relationships, identity, shifting family roles, or the demands of service. Couples therapy is also available if you want to work on your relationship together.

Is what I share in therapy confidential?

Therapy is confidential within legal and ethical limits, including certain reporting and safety exceptions. We can discuss privacy, documentation, and any questions about your role or employment before starting. I cannot guarantee how outside clearance or employment processes work.

Can we work on communication and our relationship instead of the job?

Absolutely. Some people want help with communication, disconnection, parenting roles, or rebuilding time together. Therapy can focus on your relationship without requiring you to center your occupational experiences.

Do you offer virtual sessions, and what are your fees?

In-person appointments are in Northwest Las Vegas, and virtual sessions are available when you are physically located in Nevada. Individual therapy is $160 and couples therapy is $180 per 50-minute session. Swank Counseling is private pay.
